Find Out How You Can Begin Using These Techniques to Improve Your Game and Consistently Beat Your Competition!

Dear fellow tennis enthusiast,

Back in June 2005, I came across an out-of-print book published by a former U.S. pro tennis coach named James Burns. Although the book was somewhat dated, I found that the techniques and strategies revealed in Burns' book are just as relevant to the tennis players of today. In fact, Burns' book was so successful that it went through several editions and re-prints over a span of 16 years from its initial publication date!

I read it and picked up quite a number of great tips and techniques that have improved my game. I thought it was a shame that it was out-of-print and pretty much inaccessible to most of my follow tennis enthusiasts (such as you ), so I decided to create this website to make it available again in ebook format.

James Burns' book is really quite a treasure trove that if read and followed could transform the game of even the worst tennis player. This is actually one of the best "how to play tennis" books that I have read.

The game of tennis has actually changed very little since it was first introduced to the world in its current form at the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1874, and even less so since the latest edition of James Burns' book was released in 1930. The main area that has evolved substantially is the racquet technology, which has had some bearing on grip and stroke technique. The fundamental tactics and strategies of tennis however are pretty much unchanged. I am making available to you via this website and ebook version of the reprint of Burns' latest edition which was released in 1931.

The tennis tips, tricks and techniques revealed in this book
are as applicable & beneficial today as the day this book
was FIRST published!

This Is Your Chance to Learn From One of the Best

James Burns was widely recognized as one of the foremost tennis experts of his time – and the way he teaches you through this easy-to-read, easy-to-understand book, I think will quite literally transform your game.

Follow and apply his teachings, and you will learn to think and play like a pro. You may even begin to win matches against people you never thought you would be able to beat in your lifetime! (at least I did )

A teaser of some of the tennis coaching tips this ebook covers includes:

bullet

How to effortlessly return the toughest serves

bullet

bullet

bullet

And much more...

The ebook is also contains some 24 photographs and illustrations that show you:

bullet

bullet

bullet

Start of a top drive

bullet

How to position yourself to defend a shot from center of court

bullet

bullet

Correct volleying position at the net

bullet

How to hit a smash

bullet

How to grip the racquet

bullet

The wrong way to finish a stroke

bullet

And much, much more!

Here are a couple of examples of the illustrations and images from the book (I found many of the photos quite a crack-up looking at the dress code and racquets of the 30's! )

Tennis Court Position Illustration

COURT POSITION

The following is one of several illustrations highlighting the court positions we should take in anticipation of a shot coming to us from an opponent's position (of course we also need to consider the speed, height, and what spin the opponent will put on the ball, but those points are considered elsewhere).

Divide the line of the two widest possible returns that will not land out of court and it will tell us the line on which to stand.

In this illustration, the line A to M shows the widest return line your opponent at A can make to your right.

The line A to N shows the widest return line he can make to your left and still keep his or her return in court.

The line A to P is the dividing line of the angle and your correct defensive position should be somewhere along this line (disregard indicators *A and *B for the sake of this excerpt).

The farther from the net your opponent is the nearer the net you can stand, care being taken not to get so close that a lob will put you on the defensive. When your opponent is nearer the net your position should be farther from the net, not so far, of course, as to leave too wide an angle to protect.

The "Danger Zone" indicates the area where you will be too close for ground-strokes and too far back to volley your return.

The most frequent mistake of players is that they stand in the center of the court for a return driven from one of the sidelines.

HOW TO GRIP THE RACQUET

The first picture shows an example of a single-handed back hand grip with the thumb around instead of up the handle. This gives more power, although having the thumb further up the handle can be more accurate for inexperienced players.

Backhand Tennis Raquet Grip Part 1

This second picture shows the reverse of the same single-handed back hand grip example shown above. It illustrates how the fingers should he spread to insure a firm holding of the racquet.

Backhand Tennis Raquet Grip Part 2

I warned you that some of these old tennis pics might be amusing!

One of these days I'll get around to re-doing the illustrations on my PC, and taking this book and my digital camera with me to court and getting someone to photograph me instead

So Isn't It Time That You Began Playing the Tennis Game
That You've Always Dreamed of Playing?

How much is being able to significantly improve your tennis game worth to you?

How much would you expect to pay for advice and information that quite literally could change the way you play tennis and allow you to play better than you ever thought possible?

Well, right now, for a limited time, you can take advantage of my special promotional offer and receive James Burns' “How to Play Tennis” ebook for just $17.

Why do I say "for a limited time"? Well, it's currently in a pretty raw format because the ebook is a scanned version of the pages of the 1931 edition of the book, complete with all the original illustrations and photographs from that era.

I plan to revise the ebook shortly and include my own tips, plus update all the illustrations on PC and all the photographs with contemporary digital shots of yours truly! . But once I have done that, I will be selling this ebook for $37, not $17.

That'll still be pretty good value though. A 1hr lesson from a "good" pro tennis coach can cost you anywhere from $40-$60 depending on where you live. And, if the lesson isn't any good you don't get your money back, nor will you learn in a 1hr lesson all the techniques and strategies that James Burns' book covers. Tennis camps can cost up to $1,000 or more.

Because I strongly believe that you'll improve your game by incorporating these "text book tennis" techniques and strategies into your game, I think letting you have them for $17 is really a very good deal. No serious tennis player should really be without this guide.

Is this You? If so, I used to be in Your Shoes!

Before I read James Burns' book, I loved to play tennis and on some days I was pretty good. But whether I played good or bad, I always played according to my natural ability and standard on the day. What do I mean by that?

As you must also do, I would talk to myself in my head before making a shot, such things as:

"Ok, he's in the right hand of the service court. I'm gonna hit this one to his backhand deep into the doubles court, just shy of the baseline".

And I would make my shot. But I never thought beyond that, by asking myself the likely backhand return he will have to make from that position as a  right hander, what potential angles his shot might create, and therefore where I needed to move to immediately after having made my shot in order to position myself properly and be ready for his reply.

Generally I would just gravitate instinctively towards the center of court, either close to the baseline or towards the net to volley (although the latter rarely - I'm a die-hard baseliner!).

Now, let me guess what you might be thinking to yourself (because I thought this same thing when I first read Burns' book):

"How the heck am I going to have the time to take all that into consideration in the heat and speed of competition?"

Well, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! The short answer is you can't do it well if you try too hard consciously, but the good news is that it soon becomes second nature. Once you learn and revise the strategies outlined in James Burns' book, and practice them a few times, you don't really have to think about it too much. There are really only a handful of "the most common positions" that your opponent will strike the ball to you from, and a handful of corresponding positions where you should be to receive the shot.

It soon becomes second nature as your sub-conscious takes over and you just instinctively move to where you need to be, in other words the optimal position for you to be ready to make your next shot.

And let me tell you... it will make a huge difference to the number of points and games that you will win! I used to get so frustrated when I would lose to someone I felt I should beat. Somehow certain opponents would always beat me, even though I knew I was better than them in certain aspects of my game. But I was able to quickly turn the tables by simply incorporating the anticipation of knowing where I should be to reply to a shot, before my opponent had even struck his reply to my last shot.

Suddenly I was beating some of those smart-alec opponents who had always got the better of me!

And I was then able to gaze with pride over the pennant competition results board in the clubhouse on Saturday afternoons, as I still do to this day.

Reading “How to Play Tennis” was one big step in that allowed me to achieve this! - without too much difficulty I might add.

Now I can walk around the club with my head held high and my friends all want to know how I became such a great tennis player! (well... maybe I'm not quite yet ready to take on McEnroe in the senior's tour, but I'm working on it ).

I must admit it feels great… but the best news is that..
